The Game of Go
The Art of Strategy
The Gipping Valley saw battles of an oriental nature spill into its schools. As part of the partnerships on going push to provide provision for able, gifted and talented pupils a day was organised at Bacton middle school for nearly 200 pupils from across all the age ranges. Pupils were treated to a day of learning how to play the oriental game of GO.
GO was invented in China in 2300 BC and it is in fact the second most-played strategy game on Earth, (after Chinese Chess).
The day was a fantastic success seeing pupils and staff from around the partnership go head to head in battle with a few notable victories for some of the primary school pupils against high school pupil and even some staff!!
As a result of the day, each school has gone away with the knowledge and resources they need to take the game of GO back into their own schools. In addition to this, we are aware already of two schools that have their own extra curricular GO club open to all pupils.
