Stowmarket Schools in Music Event |
|
We at Stowmarket Middle School were asked whether we would like to be involved in a very exciting venture with members of with members of Britain’s most prestigious contemporary Chamber Orchestra, the London Sinfonietta, who are going to be leading a creative music project called “Surf and Turf”.
It involves 2 days off normal school timetable for 30 students with Mrs Elstone, plus coming into school on the Friday (when the rest of the school have a PD day). Members of this prestigious Orchestra, poet Dean Parkin, and composer Fraser Trainer will be working with our students plus some from Stowupland High School to create new music inspired by local memories and traditions. This will culminate with rehearsals and concerts on Sunday 30th May at the Museum of East Anglian Life for which tickets are on sale from the Tourist Information Office at the Museum.
The London Sinfonietta are committed to working with young musicians to enhance, encourage and widen their experience and more details could be available from www.surfandturf.org.uk |

SOR Consultation Delayed |
|
SCC have announced that the consultation on the proposed changes to two tier schools for Bury St Edmunds, Thurston, Stowmarket and Stowupland areas will be delayed. This is due to the uncertainty of funding with the DCSF being unable to provide information on capital allocations for 2011 onwards. They say they still intent to implement the change as soon as resources are available. See here for statement from Phil Whiffling, SOR Project Lead. |
